Blog Entry- TEAMWORK

Since the investigation began, I was able to realize that it required an enormous amount of dedication and group effort. Throughout this month we have learned to control it in a very efficient way thanks to teamwork. The synthesis in which I work is very similar to one of my lab partners Magdelisse Velazquez Repollet. This semester we take most courses together and as a result we have the same hours of research. Our synthesis is very difficult because it requires a lot of time. Time which is the main ingredient to our investigations but in most never seems enough for all we have to accomplish. So we designed a way to complete the synthesis time: helping each other. I think that my results without her eventually would have escalated to a degree of none veracity and efficiency. I also lost a lot of study time for classes, affecting my academic performance, before I decided to team up. I think the only disadvantage I found working as a team is the schedule. If we want to be together at the time of the synthesis is necessary to arrive at eight o’clock almost every day and this is a great sacrifice especially for my lab partner that has to travel from her home in Lajas (approximately 1 hour away). Teamwork is a way of mission, and if it is understood as such, the problems and advantages, it can become an exceptional device for the advancement of eternal strength.
Synthesis of cis-Pt (NH3)(benzothiazole)Cl2
Cisplatin is a chemotheraphy treatment used in some types of cancers small cell lung cancer, colon cancer and stomach cancer. The disadvantages of this compound are that it is highly toxic and resistant, so their use in treatment is not always effective. Scientists continue seeking new agents that could weak its mechanism of resistance.
I will be investigating the synthesis of cisplatin using like ligand 1,3 benzothiazole. I am very animated with my participation in this project because it is my first time in such a big assignment and I know that it requires a huge responsibility and I am prepared for that.
My mentor in this research is the professor Mayra Cadiz. She has a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry. I choose this area because anything that involves the camp of medicine especially with the research of drugs that can battle cancer enthusiasm me. My experience in the laboratory has been one of the most fantastic I have ever had. I have read a research item related with our work and how important is to make this the best as possible not only by the money it could cost an mistake its because maybe we could discover something that it could beneficiated millions of citizens . My team is composed of persistent and responsible undergraduate students and a great professor which make me feel that our goals will truly fulfill by the end of the semester and for the next year.
Our purpose by the end of the semester is to synthesize cis-Pt(NH3)(L)Cl2 where L=1,3 benzothiazole by using K2PtCl4 as the starting reagent and find a way to make the Pt increase its transport to the cell and reduce its elimination.

Who I am?
Hi! Welcome to my BioBlog. My name is Jetsy M. Caraballo López; I am from Yauco, Puerto Rico and I’m 19 years old. I am currently in the second year of my bachelor in Industrial Biotechnology at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez. One of my future goals is to make a PhD in immunology or molecular microbiology. I describe myself like a very caring but perseverant person. I have always wanted to help people with their health problems. BIOMINDS would give me the chance to prove my abilities and prepare me for my future.
